2020 was a bumper, if unexpected, year as the health situation affected everyone. Not only was it our 30th Anniversary, but we were also fully behind Hertfordshire Year of Culture 2020 #HYOC2020, playing our part from the very beginning: our diary of events and opportunities was extra-full, beginning with our free January Members Conference at the lovely Trestle Arts Base (St Albans) and ending with several virtual art celebrations.

Which brings us to 2021 ....

Big Makers Fair 2021

#BigMakersFair 2021 - Objects of Desire runs from 1st - 31st March, with 3 live events 19th, 20th, 21st March. We're taking full advantage of our website and strong social media presence to create this inaugural event. #BigMakersFair is a fantastic virtual celebration of our artisan-makers across Hertfordshire as they share their work, creations and gifts. It's a great experience for our visitors and artists alike. Registration opens early February 2021. Here's the exhibition page Big Makers Fair

Members: everything you need will be in the Big Makers Fair tab. Once registered, you will also receive exclusive Makers Fair support emails.

Non-members: it's simple to become a member of Herts Visual Arts, then you can join in with this event and take advantage of all our other benefits too. What are you waiting for?

Members Conference 2021

Our members conference was a very well-attended on-line event this year, with guest speakers and more.

Christmas Showcase 2020

#HertsChristmasArts 2020 runs from 14th November - 31st December 2020. We took full advantage of our website and strong social media presence to create Christmas Showcase. #HertsChristmasArts is a fantastic virtual celebration where visual artists across Hertfordshire can share their work, seasonal creations and gifts. It's a great experience for our visitors and artists alike.

Members: simply updated their Gallery to (1) put a seasonal image at the top and (2) select the Christmas Showcase Theme. (3) visit the Christmas Showcase tab here for more detail, special event dates. There was no charge to participate, but members were encouraged to complete this by 20th November to feature in our seasonal flipbook and video.

Non-members could also take part by signing up as members first. Joining as a member in 2020 also means you can take part in our January Conference and also (subject to separate fee and available places) our March Makers Fair.

Open Studios for artists 2020

#HertsOpenStudios 2020 ran from 1st-30th September. We took full advantage of our website to make this year’s #HertsOpenStudios not only a fantastic virtual celebration of visual artists in Hertfordshire, but also the 30 years from our beginnings right up to the present day. It was a great experience for our visitors and artists alike.

Registration opened on 14th July 2020 after a formal Launch on Monday 13th July at our Summer Members Meeting.

Virtual trails/themes will keep visitors coming back day after day. Members will be able to upload videos, live events and also schedule virtual meetings with prospective customers. Typical videos could include studio tours, demonstrations, artist introductions or developing work.

As always, we’ll have help videos and files in the members area of our web site to help get you started.

Artists take part for many reasons, depending on their personal art journey; from starting out in a living room or garage for the first time, to established artists with a secure customer base - everyone is different.  This year we embrace a unique opportunity to welcome visitors to our work and increase visibility and connections: all safely distanced under the HVAF support umbrella.

Any artists, artisans and designer-makers who live or work in or on the borders of Hertfordshire can take part in Open Studios, but you must first join Herts Visual Arts member.
