Alice Gavin Atashkar

I’m a self taught, expressive painter. I grew up surrounded by fabrics in South Manchester as such my brain is imprinted with texture. I’m interested in how we attach meaning to marks, and how that meaning is shaped over time by intersectional aspects. For example, my connection to texture has been shaped by growing up in a textile workshop, my Northern heart helps me to see the inequality in the North / South divide, and my time spent in Spain and France helped shape my colour palette. Wellbeing is also close to my heart and I also have an MA in Art Psychotherapy from the University of Hertfordshire. I’m passionate about how art and creative expression makes a difference to our wellbeing and human experience. I focused fully on my practice since 2012 and participated in various London Art Fairs and Open competitions. I’m blessed to receive mentoring by Paul Regan ARWS and am part of the North London Studio Friday Collective. I’m honoured that my pieces are held in private collections all over the world from USA, Australia, Switzerland, Iran, Israel, Tokyo, Spain and UK.
