May Cheung Grant

After Art college May went on to pursue a career as a Graphic Designer, working for various design companies and advertising agencies both in the UK and Hong Kong. She took a 16-year break from the design and creative scene due to family commitments and part-time work at a nursery. It was during covid May picked up a paint brush, renewing her creative interest as of 2019/2020 (Painting part time and also self taught) May paints with acrylics and uses mixed media and inks. May is a intuitive painter whose work is inspired by both ocean life and florals. Influenced by the intricate forms of plankton and the organic structures of botanical elements, she explores the natural pattern that connect life above and below surface. Working without a predetermined outcome, May allows colours, movement and instinct to guide her process. Her paintings are built through layered marks and flowing pigments, creating compositions that feel fluid, immersive and alive. Each piece reflects a unique moment-where colours merge and evolve freely-resulting in work that is both expressive and impossible to replicate.
