My artistic practice begins with a photographic concept or idea, which is then transformed into an artwork either digitally or using an analogue technique. While much of my work has been displayed in two dimensions, it is gradually transitioning to other media, such as artist’s books and installations. I’m increasingly exploring my interests by expressing my artistic ideas in three-dimensional mediums, most lately casting, ceramics, and modular constructions.
In my work, I investigate themes of traces, remains, and the conceptions associated with them. I’m curious about how geography, history, archaeology, genealogy and the environment might be read via the lens of art, particularly the theme of place as manifested in relics, vestiges, ruination, presence, and absence.
Art processes are exciting to me because they can be used to interpret concepts, but they also involve chance and allow for a wide range of outputs from a single starting point. The artworks created are artifacts, residues or traces of the initiating concept or idea.
