ARTIST STATEMENT Julie Leaming

Julie’s artwork is created in response to primary sketches  made from lines, patterns and fragments observed  in nature. These patterns are re interpreted using  clay, clay slips and paper  forming the body of the sculptures and vessels.  The  paper clay  is flattened , twisted and sculpted into intricate shapes and patterns, fired and finished in light matt colours and a transparent glaze.

 Julie graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in 2015, with a BA degree in Contemporary Fine Art, a former member of Digswell Arts Trust and a qualified tutor in Ceramics, currently working at Oaklands College, St Albans.  Julie exhibits in HVA events, and shows  across Hertfordshire and the South of England .
