My background in art textiles informs my paintings.  I use acrylics or oils with collage, mixed media and layering to create depth and translucence.  Working from photographs and sketches, I aim to capture a sense of place rather than aiming for a direct observational representation.  I want to create the essence of my experience in a landscape or when looking at a still life.  Colour, texture and shape arise from the observation of natural forms and interesting objects.
