E J Rae

My work consists of vibrant, semi-abstract oil paintings inspired by the natural worldโ€”featuring landscapes, sunsets, and animals. Cats, kingfishers, robins, and hares are particular favourites.

I also create linoprints, where tonal values and textures are achieved through various mark-making and carving techniques.

Over the years, I have explored a wide range of art materials and continue to enjoy discovering new ones. Colour is central to my process; I am endlessly fascinated by the emotional resonance of colour combinations. When certain hues evoke a strong emotional response, they become the catalyst for creation.

My practice is an ongoing exploration of colour, mood, and materialโ€”aimed at capturing the beauty and vitality of the natural world in and around Hertfordshire.

I work from a small home studio in a village near St Albans and hand-print each linocut individually using an antique Victorian Albion press.
