I am a painter working mostly in acrylics and inks, on canvas or board, as well as collage work and smaller works on paper. My work is an emotional and contemplative response to landscape, treading the boundary between a representational structure and abstraction. Often incorporating collage and texture, my work is primarily process driven, initially responding to what is happening on the working surface, allowing a semblance of landscape to emerge out of successive layers of loose paint, partially revealing, partially obscuring what came before. A painting might go through several iterations before it reaches final completion. I have regularly exhibited and sold work through galleries, exhibitions, and art fairs, in Hertfordshire, the Eastern Region and London. I have been a practicing artist since graduating with First Class Honours in Fine Art from the University of Bedfordshire in 2010, after which I was fortunate to secure a 5 year Fellowship with Digswell Arts. I currently work out of a studio at my home in Wheathampstead.
I am delighted to have been accepted again to exhibit at both Kimpton and Ayot St Lawrence Art Fair, and hope to at this year’s Big Art Fair in Hitchin, and Open Studios. I will also be submitting to exhibit at Hertford and Harpenden Art Societys’ Open Exhibitions.
This year I am able to devote more of my time to creative practice and am using the opportunity to explore more widely, in order to reinvigorate and refresh that practice. I am practising my drawing skills through life drawing and sketching, expanding my collage work, diving deeper into painting techniques, and visiting exhibitions to feed my creative inspiration. Excited to see where it takes me.
