13t Rosie Elizabeth Barker at Kingsbury Artists

Rosie Elizabeth Barker is a classically trained fine artist based in Hertfordshire. She specialises in creating high-quality oil paintings and detailed drawings, with a particular focus on portraiture and still life. Her home studio is where she creates her paintings, working with a blend of traditional techniques and a contemporary sensibility.
Rosie pursued formal training and earned a spot in a prestigious young artist apprenticeship under the guidance of renowned artist James Gillick. Since then, she has continued to create both commissioned portrait artwork and original paintings, focusing on creating meaningful, lifelike representations.
Rosie’s artistic approach combines the classical teachings from her apprenticeship and the old master techniques with a modern perspective, resulting in a distinctive and refined style. As a lover of people, animals, and food, these subjects are at the heart of her work. In her still life paintings, she aims to capture the beauty of domestic life, celebrating the simple pleasures that bring comfort and joy.
In her portrait art, she strives to capture the unique expression that makes each subject — whether human or animal — instantly recognisable.
Creating art is not just a profession for Rosie, it is a form of meditation. As an energetic and sociable person, she has found that painting and drawing are the most successful ways to meaningfully reflect on her experience of the people, places, and things she encounters.
During Open Studios, Rosie’s work can be seen 19th-21st and 26th-28th Kingsbury Barn in St Albans.
