Mella Kelly

Women in art can fascinate, enthral, stir the senses and provoke–whether as the subject or the creator.

As a multimedia artist and writer, also working directly with women across the world to empower and connect in communities, the creation of this Open Studios space encourages you to come experience women through a range of vantage points and mediums. Whether printed aside a painting or subtly woven onto a canvas, there is always a story to tell.

This exhibition, “Women: Archetypes, Love & Body”, invites the visitor to enter a transformed gallery representing Mella Kelly’s own garden studio: step into the surrounding greenery on the walls, the windows beckoning flowerbeds, the beautifully-framed pieces and the half-finished charcoal sketches. Come speak to the artist, attend a workshop, gaze at the human form and ask questions. There will be vibrant collage, impasto oils/acrylics, watercolours and ink.

Undeniably, art continues to capture the many facets of women: in motion, in everyday life and in fashion, in history and mythology. This exhibition takes you on a journey, alongside the story, and aims to leave you stirred, curious, connected, informed, hopeful and, ideally, with a fresh respect and insight into women, as much as this limited space can offer.

After your visit, perhaps ask yourself: how else can I artistically celebrate women with compassion and in solidarity? At the root of these questions is love and curiosity…the rest is simply enjoying art!
