Hertfordshire artist Brigid Marlin founded the International Society for Art of Imagination and wrote Techniques in Painting and Fantastic Visions.

Brigid will be exhibiting a selection of her paintings alongside work by some of her group members including Mary Casserley, Cathy McCartney, Tracey Gent, Annie Mitchell, Alison Goslin, and Pritika Jagota The group study painting using the Mische Technique, an ancient technique of painting using egg-tempera and oil layers, under Brigid’s tutelage. Cathy McCartney, as Brigid’s protegee also now offers lessons in the technique.

Brigid Marlin was born in Washington, D.C., studied at the National College of Art, Dublin, the Centre d’Art Sacre, and the Atelier André L’Hote, Paris, the Beaux-arts, Montreal, and the Arts Students League of New York. Later she went to Vienna to learn the Mische technique, a process of painting which was a carefully guarded secret of the Flemish and Italian Renaissance painters, and revived after painstaking research by Ernst Fuchs.

Her work is in held in collections worldwide, including the The House of Lords, The National Portrait Gallery, The National Museum for American Artists and Illustrators and Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. Her portrait commissions include The Dalai Lama, J. G. Ballard and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Her portrait of J.G Ballard hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
