Townhouse Ceramics is a contemporary ceramics studio and gallery based in a Georgian townhouse in the heart of Bishop’s Stortford. During Herts Open Studios, visitors are invited to explore the space, see work by resident and guest makers, and get a feel for the studio as both a place of making and learning.
Across the Open Studios weekends, we’ll be showing a selection of contemporary ceramics alongside work in a range of art disciplines, with demonstrations and informal displays throughout the building. Visitors may see wheel throwing, handbuilding, surface decoration, and other materials-led processes, depending on the day.
Townhouse offers pottery courses, wheel throwing tasters, art workshops, and a membership studio for adults, with a focus on practical skills, thoughtful making, and a welcoming but serious creative environment. Our aim is to create a space that supports both beginners and more experienced makers, while also bringing high-quality ceramics and art into the town centre.
Whether you’re curious about taking a class, interested in becoming a member, or simply want to visit and see what’s happening inside the townhouse, we’d be delighted to welcome you.
