I like to draw outdoors using pen and watercolours in small sketchbooks. Indoors I paint on a larger scale using acrylics on paper and oil on canvas, using images from my sketchbooks as a starting point. Mainly trees, landscapes and seascapes.
My father always wanted me to ‘do something’ with my sketchbooks. He was frustrated that I painted over the binding and on both sides of the paper so you couldn’t take the drawings out of the books! After his death I wanted to honour his memory by taking his advice, for once!
I found a printer who could take images from the sketchbooks and reproduce them as Fine Art Giclée prints. He enlarged some of the images, and this process allowed the quickly drawn sketchy lines and splashes of paint to come alive with a vibrancy that I could not otherwise achieve on that scale.
In my studio in St Albans I will be showing the original sketchbooks along with limited and open edition giclée prints and cards, as well as some oil paintings on canvas.
