Born in the Lake District, Jo was surrounded by nature and has always enjoyed drawing and painting for pleasure. Following a short course in oil painting, Jo’s love of this medium means she has continued to work with it ever since.

Jo lived in France for 20 years moving to Gosmore, Hitchin in 2024. She has exhibited her art in Paris, Brussels, London, and Provence. During a show in Paris she met a team from the Bank of France who now have six pieces of Jo’s artwork in their collection. Also she has paintings in private collections further afield in Iran, USA, Australia, and China.

Realising how much she needs to surround herself with nature, one way to do this is by painting trees, enabling her to bring nature in to hers and others’ homes. She loves to use shadows and light in her paintings to evoke a sense of depth and vibrancy. She uses a palette knife with oils and sometimes gilding on canvas, focusing less on realistic representations and more on capturing the essence of her subjects through her artistic style. Her use of gold leaf gives a warmth and luminosity. She hopes the observer of the painting feels the depth of the forest and feels inclined to step forward to explore.

Jo’s journey continues, always playing with ideas, keeping things fresh and interesting for herself and her collectors.
