30a Sue Wookey at Wensley Arts

Paintings and ink drawings inspired by nature, ancient landscapes, symbols, dreams and inner journeys.
Sue lives on the ancient Icknield Way beneath Galley Hill in Bedfordshire and finds the Chiltern landscape and its wildlife a constant source of inspiration. Combined with a lifelong interest in the power of symbols and the mysteries of Britain’s mythic past, Sue’s paintings are layered with different levels of meaning for the viewer to discover. Sue believes passionately that it takes two to create a painting – the artist who offers it and the response of each individual person who looks at it.
Much of Sue’s work reflects a love of harmonious shapes and patterns. Mainly working in watercolour, her paintings are often framed by a border of words which add another layer of meaning. These are often fragments of poems written by the artist and inspired by the painting. She also enjoys painting looser landscapes, capturing the rugged coastal landscapes of Kerry and the hills and woods of the Chilterns. More recently Sue has been branching out into ink drawings of animals with some of the local flora and fauna found with them.
Sue is a member of the Eagle Gallery Co-operative in Bedford and enjoys working with so many outstanding local artists. This year, for Open Studios she will be sharing a studio space in Harpenden.
Many of Sue’s paintings are available as prints from her website at www.suewookey.com. Original works are only available through collection or local delivery by the artist.
