I work in 2D and 3D, collecting ideas, images, objects, to play with composition.
Probably best known for my townscapes, these chart history and stories – evoking a sense of place, a slice of life: through buildings, architecture, power and politics, injustice, the march of technology, history and more. I use ultra-fine drafting pens to create deliberately simplified and slightly wonky collections of buildings/features. They capture one view of history, often with a spotlight on evolving social and power structures and women who should simply be better known.
Other areas of my work work explore mathematical structure through drawing, painting and 3D work, using grids and numerical systems as generative frameworks. Rather than illustrating mathematics directly, the work lets structure emerge visually. Examples include my Prime Meditations and Homage to the Square series – abstracted drawings that flow into wearables.
In other directions I explore pattern, shape, form and life though various formats, including photography, mixed media pieces and asemic texts or drawings. A seemingly varied collection, interconnected by maths, observations of life, colour and shape.
