32c Debbie Knight at Gallery 32

Working predominantly with oil paint, Debbie has spent the last few years building a vocabulary of marks and painting in an expressive and abstract manner. Her work is ever evolving, but fundamentally she returns to the same core themes; she has a deep interest in ancient history, myth and faith, man’s origins, and common dreams. This, coupled with being a keen observer of the world around us, both natural and man made, its structures and constructs, all have a voice within her work.
‘When I look at the world, I notice colours, textures, differences; they excite my imagination and inspire me to create something which has never existed before. I never start a painting with a plan for the finished piece, I allow them to evolve and watch as something exciting comes into being!’
Through colour and layering, texture, scratches, adding and removing paint, Debbie builds an image which is open for the viewer to interpret, but shows an outward expression of the drama that has built the image. Her work speaks of optimism and seeing the silver lining even when facing adversity; trusting in the curves of the path. Recent solo exhibitions: ‘The World in Abstract’ at the Collective Gallery St. Albans April 2023 & the Arts and Heritage Centre Baldock Summer 2023.
