Shannon Lane’s Dreamworlds

A tall, skeletal, human-like creature with long limbs and glowing white eyes crouches in a misty, desaturated landscape, leaning toward a small lone figure standing on a wooden pier. The figure faces the creature, emphasizing a stark contrast in scale. Sparse, leafless trees rise from a foggy shoreline in the background, creating a quiet, eerie atmosphere.

Shannon Lane is a UK-based surrealist oil painter creating atmospheric, dreamlike worlds where vast, haunting figures coexist with small human subjects. Her work explores mental health, vulnerability, and the quiet tension between fear and curiosity, often portraying “inner demons” not as threats, but as complex, almost empathetic presences.

Working with muted palettes, soft light, and dramatic shifts in scale, Shannon builds cinematic landscapes filled with fog, stillness, and subtle narrative. Her recent work leans into storytelling and world-building, creating connected scenes that invite viewers to step into an unfolding psychological space.

Alongside her studio practice at the Letchworth Settlement, where she is Resident Artist, Shannon is also the founder of Tipsy Art, a series of relaxed, social painting sessions designed to make creativity accessible to everyone, regardless of experience.

During Open Studios, visitors will be able to view original oil paintings and works in progress, offering insight into both her process and the ideas behind her evolving “Dreamland” universe. Shannon will also be available to talk about her work and creative process throughout the event.

She is also open to commissions, working closely with individuals to create deeply personal pieces inspired by their own experiences with mental health.
