I was very fortunate to go to art college at at time when it was much easier financially to do so. art and creativity is important in so many areas but is perhaps neglected a bit as people struggle with the cost of living and affording somewhere to live. I fully understand and emphasise that as a result the arts have become less of a priority. I have a wide range of interests and have been a campaigner, I feel strongly that if we could sort out some basic issues like affordable housing, there would be an enormous economic boost including to the arts. Related to this I have set up campaigns to regulate housing costs such as www.housepricecontrol.org.uk
The premis being that the housing market is not a ‘perfect market’ in economic terms therefore there is a strong case for regulating the house price mechanism and rents.
In terms of art, visual images can have an enormous impact in campaigns, I am not sure whether to put some of these campaign images on show at the Open Studio as I try very hard not to show any art works that may offend. I have kept back some of my art as I am not sure I would be happy producing it now.
