It started with a fish! That was my first attempt at mosaic making & I enjoyed it enormously. I was looking for an activity that 3 generations of our family (ages ranging from 13 to 91!) could enjoy one summer holiday. We all successfully completed a mosaic in the two-day workshop. I have found making mosaics more enjoyable as I get better at it. I like to try out different things & have mosaiced a bust, several big terracotta frogs, wheelbarrows (to be used as decorative garden planters), small chairs to make into plant pot stands, flowerpots & house numbers. Experimenting has its ups & downs, but whatever the outcome it’s a lesson one way or the other!
I have progressed from using solely glass tiles to cutting up china plates with interesting patterns, textures & colours, expanding the scope & variety of the mosaics I can make. My aim is to keep improving my skills and seeing where they take me.
This is my first time participating in Open Studios & I am enormously grateful to Damien, owner & Manager of Thompsons Close Café, for hosting me &my mosaics. We are regulars here; the café has a lovely atmosphere; the service & food are great & we love the coffee! My mosaics will be on display in the café & I’m hoping for good weather so I can be outside, demonstrate my art & chat to anyone who’s interested.
Do join us 7-12th Sept 2026!
Thank you.
