Francesca Ricciardi

Francesca is a contemporary abstract painter, focusing on vibrant colour palettes and expressive gesture. Working in acrylic allows her to paint quickly and intuitively. Paint is applied, removed, obscured and reworked, building layers and texture throughout the process.

‘I am interested in what happens when control is loosened—the unpredictability of layering, and the moments when the work begins to lead in its own direction. The aim is to produce paintings that feel alive: bright, energetic and open to interpretation.’

Colour is central to her work. She selects vivid, often unexpected combinations to create tension and rhythm, with bold contrast as a defining element. While her palettes can vary dramatically, her technique and intention remain consistent: to create atmosphere and a sophisticated sense of depth.

Abstraction has always been at the core of her practice. Working between structure and spontaneity, her approach continues to evolve, particularly in composition. She explores a kind of visual engineering that deliberately guides the viewer’s eye, while maintaining a sense of freedom and apparent unpredictability.

‘I am excited to be part of the Open Studios event this September. Welcoming visitors into the space where I create is a real privilege. It’s an opportunity to share my process, discuss materials, and offer a selection of original works.’
