Other worlds

Oct 3 2021

Other worlds — here we let the artists’ imaginations take them out of this world into others – actual, virtual, and imagined; into fictional and fantasy realms, different cultures and their worlds, computer-generated worlds, outer space, spirit and spiritual worlds.

Emma Marsden

Stoneware Hare and Acrylic Landscape
Art forms:
Ceramics, Illustration, Painting, Willow weaving

My ceramics and paintings are colourful, fun and tell a story. My influences are illustration and a love of the natural world.

I make unique, hand built ceramic sculptures of animals and people with personality.

I’ve worked as a school teacher, a mural artist and an illustrator. Working with clay is pure joy and I’m constantly learning.

Please get in touch if you’d like to know more about my work or are interested in discussing a possible commission.

Art forms:
Painting
Lost and Found - Mixed Media

Sandy Campbell is an abstract painter who creates multi-layered works that explore, materiality, surface and texture. Her work is firmly rooted in her experience of the declining urban landscape. The abandonment and decay surrounding her first studio in Luton influenced the development of the highly textured and complex surfaces she creates, as well as inspiring her 3D works using recycled materials. Exploring issues of identity and transformation, Campbell invites the viewer to absorb themselves in the sumptuous multi-layered surfaces before them, while questioning what lies beneath.

Romey T Brough

Art forms:
Painting, Printmaking
Sunflower embellished monoprint

I have been exploring the techniques used by Degas, amongst others, in the 1800s. I paint on glass with acrylic paint and print off from that.
The results have a luminosity and vibrancy which has to be seen, and which take the viewer to new depths of appreciation.

Sky Circles. Stainless steel sculpture

Visits BY APPOINTMENT ONLY - telephone 07802 872970.

Frequently working with scientists, I use architectural and industrial materials and new technologies to interpret my ideas. My long experience of working on public sculpture commissions that have to endure effects of weather and human intervention, has resulted in considerable knowledge of engineering techniques and the nature of steel and stainless steel, materials I love for their qualities of variety and structural strength. Continually experimenting with these materials produces works in new forms. Multiples, reflection, movement, colour, light and sound are present variously in many of my sculptures and installations. In them I seek equivalents for elemental movement, water, wind, for plant-life, for objects in the landscape, frequently working on a large scale. I work with engineers to produce my sculpture, which ensures high quality of fabrication and durability.

Magdalena Pisuk

Art forms:
Painting
Even Cows Get the Blues

Magdalena is a self taught artist with a background education in philosophy. Her paintings evolved around magical realism combining elements of everyday surroundings with a motion of secrecy or sacrum beyond the visible realm. In this context working with a paint brush is a colourful act of ontological curiosity towards the world rather than just an aesthetic expression. It is a way of capturing things in their existence, where colours are attempts to define reality in her various shapes and dimensions.
