Murray Blacket

Art forms:
Painting - designing

I grew up in a small country town in New South Wales. So there was landscape all around me. I now explore this fascination in my painting, here in the UK. With such a wide variation of landscape throughout, there is always wonderful inspiration for the abstract landscape painter. I explore this in different degrees of abstraction - mainly in acrylic but sometimes in oil too. I am a late starter as a painter. I began around three years ago. Although I have been a wildcard entrant on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the year, this is the first time I have exhibited any of my work.

Foraged finds from forests and headlands, woven into salient memories of childlike wonder. My work is a celebration of the natural environment, created as an antidote to viral and technological displacement.

Colour by Numbers (Everything I Own) by J R Oatts

J R Oatts creates expressive abstract art that explores unexpected connections between human emotions and the world around us. Taking inspiration from movement, performance, LGBTQ+ culture, music, space, science and nature, she refers to her work as 'colour in motion', and aims to encourage curiosity about what we perceive, what we know and how it makes us feel. From 3rd to 29th September 2021 a selection of her work will be on show at Artistsmeet, Watersmeet in Rickmansworth.

Meet the Artist event: 4pm-6pm on Saturday 18th September. Come meet other art lovers and chat to artist J R Oatts about her work.

For other evening and weekend openings when events are taking place at Watersmeet, please contact the Box Office for more information - 01923 711063.

Lorna Brown

Art forms:
Drawing, Mixed media 2D, Painting
S'Agaro Beach oil on linen, 40 x 40 cm.

My focus is oil painting and drawing (with some minor deviations). The crux of my work is mark-making: either via impastoed, gestural oil painting, or through more intricate monochrome mixed media drawings. Subjects include landscape, interiors and still life – (arguably all landscapes). The landscapes are often developed from panoramic scenes with unreachable horizons or, by contrast, the familiar view from a window repeatedly painted during changing light and seasons until the more abstract qualities emerge. My work is figurative in so much as it is the visual (form and/or colour) that inspires me, but it is the creation of atmosphere and sensation, rather than representation, that is key.
I work from a studio in Baldock and have exhibited both locally and nationaly including 3 times in the Royal Academy Summer Show. Artists Bomberg, Auerbach, Diebenkorn, Sheila Fell and Anabel Gault have been inspirational to me.

Ann Norris

Art forms:
Painting
'Coming through, coming through', acrylic, goose on magenta background

I mainly paint in acrylic paint and also acrylic ink and watercolour. My overriding passion is animals and birds, though I also paint landscapes and still life. I enjoy finding pictures of animals and birds and interpreting them in paint. I started painting to help my mental health and have found it a great way to distract myself and have an alternative diversion. Examples of my paintings these will be available to see and buy framed, mounted and un-framed. I also have a good selection of cards for sale. I have a website: www.annsart.co.uk where you can also see my present and past work and contact me.

Paul Hillary

Art forms:
Painting - designing
Abstracts with a sense of place

Paul creates abstracts and semi-abstract paintings with a sense of place with harmonies of colour. He paints using intuition mainly in acrylics. Over recent years his acrylics, oils and sketches have been inspired by stays on islands around the United Kingdom, including the Channel Islands and the Hebrides in Scotland. His sketches are largely done on location and canvasses in his studio in Hertfordshire, England.

Paul is constantly exploring with technique, colourways and texture in his art and photography, constantly capturing abstract images of old stressed skips, textures in nature and abstract colour combinations in what he sees. Themes from these observations are constantly translated onto his artworks in an abstract or semi-abstract way.

Eleanor Sidaway

Leaves, textiles, machine and hand stitch
Art forms:
Mixed media 2D, Textiles

Over the last few years I have enjoyed exploring a variety of materials. Initially drawn to silk painting and batik by the glorious colours, then onto oil paint, collage and acrylic and back again to textiles. Now I love to mix it up, playing with colour and texture to depict nature in all it's wonderful forms: flowers, leaves, trees, landscapes.
I teach workshops in silk painting and batik. Please contact eleanor_sidaway@btinternet.com
