My aim is to create eye-popping, evocative, mixed-media landscapes. I focus on variety and texture using the intensity of the acrylic colours, the transparency of watercolour washes and the gritty lines of pastels.
I love adventuring and activity and I often glimpse colourful and intriguing scenes as I cycle or walk in the countryside. My painting is an attempt to capture these views and recreate my responses to them; to lift me on a dull day indoors. When I start a new picture, I feel like I am still adventuring as I explore how to share the view or idea. At this stage it feels like anything is possible in the picture, it can be bright and joyous and evocative. I aim for my paintings to catch the eye and intrigue, to evoke colourful beauty on a sunny day.
Currently I am developing a series of 100 small paintings that I created during 100 days in the Spring. Many of the 100 paintings were based on memories and photos from my “Pennine Way” walk (of 380 miles) in Autumn 2020.
