my name is Tim Burkinshaw and I am practising artist and college lecturer living and working in Hertfordshire.
A little bit about myself; growing up on a council estate in Luton during the 70’s, as a child I loved drawing; spending my time drawing cartoons and objects that interested me. Over the past 30 years I have been developing both as an artist and as a lecturer. My work has explored the use of colour, shape and textures, creating abstract studies in both painting and print making. Drawing was my first love which I now use as means of creating ideas as well as for producing more representational work. I have paintings and print work in private collections both internationally and at home in the UK.
I am currently working on a collection of paintings that explore the theme of Fragmentation through mixed media studies. My initial starting point for this journey was to create studies that could allow my students to see how waste/off cuts from their own project work can be used/recycled to create exciting new works. My ongoing body of work explores how using abstract 3D constructions can be used to spark further ideas and paintings that seek to make sense - re apply order to chaos. This theme has reflected my own personal rationalising of the current world. Whilst my works are not specifically related to any one event, on a subconscious level I believe they have led down this pathway within my work.
