I’m Kat Kerr, illustrator and artist.
I have always loved story telling and picture books. Throughout my career as a Clinical Psychologist, I was drawn to narrative therapy which uses the power of story to action change. I broke away from my career to focus on family and developed a creative practice through embroidery and yarn crafts - including thread painting by hand which I still practice.
Revisiting children’s books with my own children rekindled my love of all things illustration. I embarked on a journey of self discovery and creative discipline to realise my dream of doing my own illustration.
The illustration of folktales weaves together so many of my passions: the natural world and sustainability; hand crafts and art; psychology and the subconscious; and of course a large helping of magic and wry humour.
I illustrate folk tales, but also do colourful portraits and landscapes.
