My atmospheric, contemporary and colourful seascapes have a strong sense of light, mystery and drama. They are inspired by my love of travel and the sea.
Having obtained an Honours degree in Art History in 2013, I found I was mostly drawn to artists who painted light; for example the 17th century Dutch landscape painters and the ‘unfinished works’ of William Turner.
My recent paintings are contemporary sea and cloudscapes which have a strong sense of light, mystery and drama. Memories and photographs of travel and sailing experiences provide the starting point for my work which evolves towards abstraction. I focus on the way light interacts with sky, earth and water - both vast expanses of sea and intricate salt marshes with their detailed patterns of tidal water channels. Colour, tonal blending and expressive brush marks convey different moods and weather, both calm and stormy.
