Quilting and the joy of the creative journey; of every square, fussy cut, stitch and seam entwined together are the cornerstones in my life.
To me, it represents so much more…each new quilt is a design, a concept, an idea, and symbolises a conveyance of love, a celebration of a life lived, the joy of a birth, an anniversary, etc. The choice of fabrics, as these reflect the tone, mode and overall effect of the finished quilt. Secret messages in terms of photo images that only myself, the client and the person receiving the quilt know the significance of. A message embroidered onto the back of the quilt, giving it a stronger personalisation.
I spend a lot of time conceptualising my client’s vision. Is this to mark the birth of a grandchild? Is it to preserve a beloved aunt’s wild 1960s original skirts and jackets? Is it to send a child off to Uni by having them be enveloped in the warmth of childhood t shirt memories? We all want to preserve the special moments of our lives and I always aim to help my clients do that in a personal and unique way that creates joy for us both.
A quilt is art in its purest sense to me. No two pieces I make are the same; each is individual and unique- much like the people I am designing and creating for. I record people and their dreams, emotions, hopes and memories in my quilts. I tell their stories preserving this moment in time for the generations to come.
