I am a Hertfordshire-based mixed media artist working at the collision point between the traditional and the anarchic. My practice centres on intervening in vintage oil paintings — sourced for their gravitas and their beauty — with stencil work, spray paint and graffiti, transforming them into something that asks uncomfortable questions about value, permanence and who gets to make their mark.
My current series features an anonymous hooded figure navigating some of the world’s most iconic and historic locations. Watched. Scaled. Listed. Busted. Each piece takes a single past-tense verb as its title — the figure has already been, already done it, already gone. The gilded frames, splattered with the same paint that marks the ancient walls within, refuse to contain the chaos. The street has got into the gallery whether the gallery likes it or not.
Influenced by Banksy’s deadpan wit and Mr Brainwash’s explosive energy, my work sits somewhere between reverence and rebellion — respecting the craft of the original paintings while gleefully vandalising them.
As well as the vintage oil series I also work on large scale original canvases combining spray paint, acrylic, stencilling and collage.
Come and see the work — and decide for yourself where the vandalism ends and the art begins.
