7a Elspeth Hector at Pastures Studio
“Oh knitting”, I hear you say – “I do that”, “My mother does that”, “My grandmother taught me to knit”, are comments often made to me. And that’s lovely. But come along to Pastures Studio in Bovingdon and see knitting taken to a different level.
I make regular things like scarves, but I never repeat the same thing twice. Each scarf is a unique Elspeth Jane creation, and is given it’s own name, reflecting the colours, the textures, the fibres, or simply what was in my mind or where I was while I was knitting it. So, even if the domestic craft of hand knitting is of no interest, come anyway and see what you think of the names I’ve assigned my pieces.
My naming obsession extends to my range of knitted Curious Creatures (I think they are cats, but make of them what you will). Each Creature has a name beginning with the letter C, a characteristic also beginning with the letter C, and a little story to go along with it.
PS – I also make some little stuffed Cutie Cats with oddments of yarn and felt heads, but I don’t give them individual names – I leave that for you to do.
And finally, for something a little bit different, I knit bracelets with wire and beads (you can see a detail of one in the image above). If what I have on show isn’t the right size/colour I may be able to make another that is perfect for you.
Finished pieces as well as work-in-progress will be on show, and I will be demonstrating some of the various techniques that I use.
