I am a self taught artist who works with a range of mediums, currently taking commissions in watercolour, pastel pencil and acrylic paints. I have recently launched my own portfolio style website, and have just had my work displayed in a local exhibition hall for the first time. This has fuelled my passion to further share my art.
I absolutely love observing and photographing animals and plants. Trying my best to capture incredible shots of beauty spots and wildlife, which I can then use to inspire and translate the visions and emotions within nature to enhance my artwork and share with my audience.
Although I work with many mediums I enjoy experimenting with different material. One piece I am particularly proud of is a large wooden rocking horse I painted in acrylics for my own wedding.
I enjoy creating realistic portraits to push my skills; however, I equally love adding my own flair with an experimental approach, be it with colours or mixed media.

My work engages with the materiality of place to interrogate the entangled nature of contemporary relationships with the landscape. I weave aspects of folklore, heritage crafts and rural life with material culture to investigate the cycles and systems of time, fertility and production, considering both ecological histories and futures.
Helen Clarke b.1979 escaped life in the corporate IT world to become a visual artist. Currently living in St Albans, Hertfordshire she completed her MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in 2023. Her work was selected for New Contemporaries 2023, has been shortlisted for the High Prize for Excellence in 2023 and won a commission with Chanel to create the award for the Chanel NEXT prize.
I use printmaking techniques and mixed media on canvas to build up imagery in layers, to try to capture the spirit of the Australian landscape. Out in the desert, the tracks and trails made by the original inhabitants, the Aboriginal tribes and their clans, seem to come to life, and their system of 'mapping' the land suddenly makes sense.
There’s a time in every generation, when showing Jewish identity becomes a dilemma. Do you stand proud or do you hide your Jewishness for safety?
We are here again. Do you show your Star of David when you go swimming? Or when you walk through Central London? These are the conversations we are having again.
A lifelong enthusiasm for gardening has focussed my attention on form, detail and seasonal changes in close-up. Countless holidays in Suffolk have inspired my love of landscape and big skies.
These twin passions have come together in my photographic exploration of surfaces and textures. My work is moving away from photography pure and simple, to a combination of photographic processes and collage – a medium I first experimented with many years ago. Inspired by Cesar Manrique, Lygia Pape and Andy Goldsworthy amongst others, I create images which I hope intrigue the viewer and lead them on an imaginative journey through texture, pattern and colour.

Meggie Nikolic is a St Albans based artist who primarily paints in oils. Meggie has gained her skills in art from a variety of sources including Belgrade School of Art, Glasgow School of Art and the Slade. She started painting in oils in 2013 under the tutelage of Christiane Kubrick.
Meggie’s oil paintings portray how she sees the world around her; the unexpected beauty of the most simple things; the freedom to be part of it all. She is intrigued by light and particularly loves sky gazing. She often paints the Hertfordshire landscapes due to their beautiful, vibrant colours, dynamic skies, fields of wild flowers and rich woodlands. In addition to landscapes, Meggie paints animals, particularly birds. Each oil painting symbolises a special memory and thus has a personal meaning to her.
I like drawing inspiration from the urban environment focusing on contrast, structures and texture.
My experience as a photographer has lead me to be constantly searching for compositions in everyday scenes.
Following a career in photography I trained as an artist at the City Lit and now attend local classes.
I grew up in Manchester and have lived in St Albans since 1995.
Having studied art and design at school, Sarah rediscovered painting ten years ago. She uses watercolour inks, acrylics and pastels to create expressive paintings inspired by her Hertfordshire surroundings and the time she spends on the Devon coast. She hopes to convey the joy in life's simple pleasures with her bold marks and vibrant colours.
Artist not present on 7th/8th.
