Inspired by a love of nature, Heather’s aim as an artist is to engage and intrigue the viewer and draw them into her work. She mindfully explores colour and light in each painting, conscious of how these elements lift the spirit and encourage connection with her subject.
The seasons, water and changing light all provide rich influences on her art. Her paintings are an emotional response to what she sees rather than a facsimile encouraging the viewer to find something different each time they look. She works chiefly in acrylics and acrylic inks which lend themselves to working quickly and expressively with a glorious array of colours.
As well as working as an artist Heather demonstrates her working process to art societies around the UK and has also taught at The JoeDaisy Studio, Art Van Go and Old Bank Studios. She regularly exhibits at Fresh Art Fairs, The Mardleybury Gallery, The Corner Gallery, The Wynd Gallery, Park Gallery, Cheltenham and various art shows.
My work is mainly of an illustrative nature, but also consists of painting in oils and watercolours.
I am heavily inspired by Japanese art and culture, namely anime and manga. This is reflected in the way I draw and paint, no matter what the subject matter is. My main interests are in portraiture and figurative art.
Over 20 years ago I studied for a degree in 2 dimensional design. While studying for my degree I discovered printmaking, particularly Lino, collagraph and mono printing. Sadly after my degree I settled into a retail career and didn’t find much opportunity to use my printmaking skills.
However in 2020 during lockdown I was put on furlough. For the first time in 20 years I had a lot of time on my hands! I began to revisit my love of art. I started with the 100 day project which, eventually led me to discover gel printing. I haven’t looked back!
I love how quick and free gel printing is and I really enjoy using leaves, stencils and found objects in my work. I’ve also begun to combine gel printing with Lino printing too! My inspiration comes from what I see around me and I’m constantly collecting leaves and feathers to print with!
In 2023 I became a member of the Gel Press Creative Team and I began running gel printing workshops so I could share my love of this process with others.
Jill believes in the therapeutic role of the Arts and encourages people to develop their skills in art using their senses and nature. She enjoys helping all ages and abilities to create art and alternative photography through the use of natural pigments as well as traditional methods. Jill has run workshops for schools and museums linking to themes and exhibitions. She has taught art to a wide age range for many years and enjoyed helping with community events such as the 'Advent Windows' in Welwyn. Since retiring she would describe herself as a Community Artist. She has helped on a voluntary basis at Libraries with Toddlers Tales, and Museums with projects such as "The Pickling Project" at St Albans Museum. She also completed a course in Art Therapy and Mindfulness at the University of Hertfordshire. The course made Jill want to become more involved in the Therapeutic role of the Arts. It also reinforced the enjoyment of creativity outdoors.

Judy is a modern contemporary artist with a passion for colour. She sees her paintings as decorative floral patterns with glowing colour. Working in acrylics and watercolours her technique has been refined with exciting new influences in collage and inks.
I'm an artist based in North London who paints vibrant, expressive and contemporary abstract florals in acrylics. I am fascinated by structure and form in nature and love the idea of capturing the fleeting moments of flowers bursting into bloom in a colourful, dramatic and energetic way! I aim to produce pieces that are decorative and uplifting with lots to enjoy and explore each time they are viewed. I often play with scale and use contrasting, bold colours to make an interesting counter to the fragility of flowers. I love the process of creating and using free, expressive brush-marks to create artwork which is lively and reflects my love of creating. I am an active member of the Welwyn/Hatfield Herts Visual Arts Group and will be running painting demos and hosting acrylic painting workshops during our Open Studios exhibition.
Paul is an unceasing explorer of techniques, colourways and textures. He paints in both acrylic and oil. His creations encapsulate the feel and essence of land and seascapes rather than literal topography concentrating on light and atmosphere aswell as emotive colourways. He has travelled extensively worldwide and has visited and stayed on the Isles around the British coastline sketching and painting, and seeking inspiration for his studio painting. He works from a purpose built studio in Welwyn Garden Studio.
I have been fortunate enough to experience different cultures through my travels, which has expanded my horizons. I was born in London, grew up in Hertfordshire but now live in Cambridgeshire. I have travelled and resided in Sweden, Germany, Australia, Holland and the USA. After graduating from the University of Hertfordshire with a BA Honours Degree in Character Model Design and Special Effects, I transitioned to abstract and mixed media painting. My artwork is inspired by my everyday experiences and emotions, allowing me to express myself in a spiritual and liberating manner. I strive to convey happiness, fun, energy, and enthusiasm within my projects, creating vivid and sensory-rich pieces. As an experimental artist, I refuse to limit myself to one medium, style, or concept. I believe that inspiration and ideas are ever-evolving, and I am always open to new creative opportunities.
I am a self-taught part-time oil, ink, and watercolour artist. Born in Brittany, France, I moved to Hertfordshire to complete my studies at the University of Hertfordshire, and now live and paint in Welwyn Garden City. I have always enjoyed drawing since a child and the enjoyment has not faltered over the years. I started with oil painting but recently started to explore ink and watercolour painting to widen my skills and creative experience.
My mostly figurative work takes inspiration from urban or rural landscapes, with a predilection for trees and vegetation in a detailed way that tends to abstraction. Surrealism and dreams are great inspiration in my work. My work was recently Highly Commended by the judges at the Courtyard Arts' 17th Open Exhibition in Hertford.
I also have a passion for travelling and always record each trip in my sketchbooks.
I am really excited to be able to show a great variety of my work as part of this Open Studios, many will be shown for the first time.
