Spontaneous gesture and meditative restraint. Led by intuition, my work embraces often opposing energies or feelings in the search for a sense of balance. I am interested in creating work that is layered, sensory and evocative, and provides a breathing space in a quick-changing and noisy world. This is influenced by my experiences and interest in time. It draws heavily on my passion for music and training as a classical musician, and my background as a stained-glass artist with my love of colour and light.
Each painting is discovered through the making. I work with oils as I love their depth of colour, versatility, and slow drying qualities. All my work united by a tension between revealing and covering, transparency and opacity, and manipulating shapes and marks to build up a history over time.
I am excited to be marking the completion of my new studio space with Open Studios this year and I will be showing an exciting collection of new paintings and smaller works on paper.
