My love of mosaic making started with a 2-day summer workshop in 2010. It has evolved slowly over the years; I started working predominantly with glass and unglazed ceramic tiles and have developed my work using a huge variety of glazed ceramics, mostly broken china that provides a broader range of colours and textures. The use of broken china has become known as picassiete, literally translated as 'broken or plundered plate'. I find the process and mechanics of mosaicing very enjoyable; it's challenging, detailed, often physical, messy, slow work and I love it! The majority of materials I use are recycled; from the boards to broken china, ceramics, glass and jewellery, and most of my supplies are from recycled sources. I have also developed a range of mosaic kits which are a good introduction to mosaicing, producing a beautiful & low risk outcome. Since becoming a member of Herts Visual Arts I have got to know many other artists and I welcome the opportunities it has given me to exhibit my mosaics. Having no previous art training just a love of making things, my aim is to keep improving my skills and seeing where they take me. Thank you for your interest.
