Biography
Welcome to Sonia Kang Designs. I refound my love and confidence for painting back in the summer of Lockdown, 2020. It was then that I decided to sell some of the pieces I made. Forever making a mess on the dining table. Being a South Asian Brit, made it a bit more challenging to dream about pursuing a career in the creative industry by the constant fear and judgment of others in the community. Living in constant approval of others is undoubtedly draining.
Nevertheless, finally learning to live for myself, I rediscovered my fondness for the arts after graduating in the pandemic. This made me truly reflect on my passions and desires in life. Working primarily with oils and palette knives, I carry inspiration from my surroundings, travels and artists like Van Gogh, to create vibrant paintings and expressive sketches.
It’s crazy how our imagination can bring a blank canvas a new lease of life. Being creative brings purpose, love and light into my life. It’s a safe space for me and my mental health. I appreciate painting with music and the sun beaming through the glass windows. Slowly but surely, I am becoming more confident in exploring different mediums and expressing my imagination through my artwork.
