Biography
My paintings frequently feature seascapes and the British coast. I am also inspired by wildflower meadows, local nostalgic landscapes, the English countryside, fiields, expansive skies, clouds, and the sun. All this beautiful nature surrounds us, yet I find myself easily waylaid by neglected wasteland, hidden backstreets, rubbish-filled service roads, broken-down buildings and rusty old paintwork.
Based on my gathered references, most of my work is created back in the studio. By using memory and observations, I can tread the fine line between representational and abstract ideas, freeing myself up to experiment with intuitive painting methods,
I love the way sunlight falls through space, filtering through trees and clouds, and I love to catch a glimpse of the sea behind swishy wildflowers or the watery movement of colour in a lonely reflection. Inspiration comes from all directions and slowly distils into my work. Each Painting is a memento of presence, mindful moments of observation in my sketchbook and a sense or feeling of joy.
