Biography
I am a professional artist working in my home studio near Ridge in Hertfordshire, overlooking open countryside.
I make work inspired by the city, and urban landscapes—places where energy, movement, and rhythm, shape my response to the world around me.
I work in acrylic and collage, using torn sheets of hand-painted paper to build patterns of intense coloured shapes. These elements help me distil what I see into something more abstract—more about feeling and essence than representation.
My background in illustration, which I studied at Wimbledon School of Art, continues to influence how I approach composition and design.Years spent as a Creative Director in the greeting card industry sharpened my eye for colour, balance and storytelling—all of which feed into my current practice. I draw inspiration from artists like Barbara Rae, Hockney, and Matisse, whose bold use of colour and form resonate deeply with me.
In 2024, I was honoured to be elected as an Associate Member of the Royal Watercolour Society. That same year, I received the St Cuthbert Mill Award for All Works on Paper from the Chelsea Art Society. In 2022, I was awarded the David Gluck Memorial Prize by the RWS.
These recognitions, along with regular exhibitions and commissions—including one for Network Rail—affirm my commitment to pushing the boundaries of paper, paint and place.
Today, my collage paintings are held in private collections and shown through galleries and Open group exhibitions such as the RWS, NEAC, SWA, RI, Chelsea Art Society, Jackson’s Prize, and Linden Hall Studio. I continue to explore the shifting relationship between structure and spontaneity, always looking for the unexpected poetry in shape and colour.
