Biography
Robyn West is an Australian-born artist who has lived in the UK for forty years. She graduated in BA Fine Art (Hons) at Norwich University of the Arts in 2024. Her abstract sculptures reference the form and materiality of built structures and the processes of construction, often countered with plays of colour that harness the changing qualities of natural light. The dynamics of opposites emerge, contrasting the physical and intangible, permanence and ephemerality, the fragile and unyielding. Key influences are modernist architecture and design, industrial structures and the illuminations from stained glass. She is interested in the qualities and possibilities of materials, and adopts a ‘thinking through making’ approach to her practice, often composing maquettes as a precursor to larger works.
