Exhibition and News
This year I am able to devote more of my time to creativity and am using the opportunity to explore more widely, in order to reinvigorate and refresh my practice. I am exercising my drawing skills through life drawing and sketching, expanding my collage work, diving deeper into painting techniques, and visiting exhibitions to feed my creative inspiration. I am excited to see where this takes me!
Meanwhile, I continue to exhibit my work and took part in the Spring Art Show in the Forum in Norwich in March, and will be taking part in a number of local exhibitions and art events in Hertfordshire throughout the year:
- Kimpton Art Show, Friday 2nd May to Monday 5th May – a popular event at Kimpton May Festival, held in the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul in Kimpton
- Ayot St Lawrence Art Show, 21-22 June 2025, with a Preview Evening on Friday 20 June. The Art Show is held in the beautiful Grade I listed Palladian Church of the charming village of Ayot St Lawrence; a truly memorable location for the Show.
- The Big Art Fair , July 18th – 20th 2025, in Hitchin Town Hall, during the Hitchin Arts Festival, the Big Art Fair is one of the major events of HVAF’s year.
- Open Studios, 6th – 8th Sept & 19th – 21st Sept, in Kingsbury Barn, St Albans – a key HVAF annual event
- I also hope to take part in Harpenden Art Club’s annual Open Exhibition in the autumn, dates tbc.
- Finally I am challenging myself by taking part in Art on Broadway, on Saturday 14th June, a live art competition in Broadway Gardens in Letchworth, which will include a variety of art stalls and food stall from local eateries, all organised by the Wynd Gallery.
Biography
I am a painter working mostly in acrylics and inks, on canvas or board, as well as collage work and smaller works on paper. My work is an emotional and contemplative response to landscape, treading the boundary between a representational structure and abstraction. Often incorporating collage and texture, my work is primarily process driven, initially responding to what is happening on the working surface, allowing a semblance of landscape to emerge out of successive layers of loose paint, partially revealing, partially obscuring what came before. A painting might go through several iterations before it reaches final completion. I have regularly exhibited and sold work through galleries, exhibitions, and art fairs, in Hertfordshire, the Eastern Region and London. I have been a practicing artist since graduating with First Class Honours in Fine Art from the University of Bedfordshire in 2010, after which I was fortunate to secure a 5 year Fellowship with Digswell Arts. I currently work out of a studio at my home in Wheathampstead.
