Jenny Sandler

Hi, I’m Jenny Sandler.  Forgive me if I sound a bit pompous, but I find it difficult writing about myself, as I am in general a rather private person who just gets on with it!

My main career one in which I earned my living and paid the bills was as a knitwear designer, since the early 80’s, I designed for a lot of the high street brands i.e. Mulberry, Alfred Dunhill, and several based in Japan and USA. I designed, made (with the help of my team of knitters!)  shipped, the lot!!   Now I am retired my life is not so much governed by deadlines, and I can peacefully create my own stuff.  I always loved working with yarns, threads, and latterly fabrics.  I have a Diploma C&G in patchwork and quilting.

I like to combine various disciplines of fabric and thread, and sometimes weaving into my work.  My happy place is ‘playing’ in my studio surrounded by my ‘stuff’ and making it up as I go along.  My gallery will be better informative.  I have given workshops and classes, but I prefer just to show people how to do things, its great passing on knowledge gained over the years.  I have some of my work on Insta and fb,

Descibe how I work? Hmmm…. I suppose my first go to is colour, this is how I have always worked.  I find a fascination in how different colours play against each other, the wrong combo can kill a project, but using the same combo in a different order can work.  I also have a love of embroidery, gained from my grandmother, I love the slow stitch approach, and often embroider pieced fabrics.

I do exhibit, although mostly as a group, and have so far had 2 exhibitions this year (2025). Another one booked for next year.
