Solstice natural inks

Join us on the Winter Solstice to make natural inks from festive ingredients.

Get ready to dive into the magic of nature with a fun and playful workshop on the Winter Solstice! Great to add a natural touch to your gifts and decorations and for anybody who would like to explore eco-friendly art . We’ll be making natural inks from hedgerow , kitchen or garden.. Join us to celebrate the festive season ( be that Solstice/Christmas/Yule for you! )

In this workshop, we will chat about which plants to forage and when and look at a selection of plant samples. We will cook up a variety of plants… from sloes, hawthorn berries, elderberries, walnuts and alder cones and we will share some inks made by longer processes such as oak gall and spruce cones. We will use modifiers and binders to create our inks. Then you will have time to get creative… to experiment with different colours and consistencies, using different substances to change colours and using different ways to apply inks to your paper.

Along the way we will chat about plants and their uses and some of the folklore associated them.

By the end of the workshop you will have your own bottles of ink and modifier to take away with you and your own wonderful inky artistic creations.

There will be refreshments… warm home pressed apple punch and festive nibbles. A lovely way to welcome back the light.
