Mary Casserley

I live and work in Tring, Herts, relocating from Berkhamsted a few years ago where I am the chairman of Berkhamsted Local History Society. I combine my love of local history, local knowledge, poster art and rose-tinted spectacles to make paintings in gouache on paper of well known landmarks in and around the Chilterns

I went to Watford School of Art in the mid- 1980’s followed by a degree in Fine Art at Portsmouth Polytechnic. I was the art technician at Berkhamsted school for 20 years. I compile and publish local history books and I have now been self-employed as an artist for 10 years

I like to reference old photos, illustrations and pictures which I combine with a site visit to create a new piece of work in an old-fashioned style. I use gouache on paper, usually A3 sized. I have the paintings professionally scanned in and provide affordable signed prints. I undertake many private commissions of houses, cars, and steam trains, adding in family members and pets if asked

In 2025 a series of my pictures were installed at Berkhamsted Station Underpass as large murals, for the benefit of the community and commuters. The images were combined with a snippet of local history. Ticking both boxes!

I have sold pictures to Boris Johnson, Sir Kier Starmer, Sir Jackie Stewart amongst others and our local Liberal Democrat MP Victoria Collins mentioned my art in the House of Commons.
