Birds by Ruth Gurney, 1-27 Sept 2014

Ruth Gurney, a familiar face at Tim’s Art Supplies, 17 Churchgate, Hitchin SG5 1DN; will be showing her original prints in Tim’s shop window from 1 - 27 September 2014 (Open: 9.30am-5pm Mon-Sat).

Her latest series of images concentrates on a charming set of lino and woodcuts of garden and water birds.  Many of these delightful British birds can be seen in your own gardens and these studies are therefore, sure to be familiar favourites with you all.

She says of this work,

“we really enjoy watching the birds in our garden and are lucky in the number and variety that visit; from Sparrows and Starlings to the Robin and this year, a pair of Chaffinches.  But most of all we like to watch (and try to count) the ever increasing numbers of Goldfinch that visit and fight over our feeder, sit in the treetops and sing to us and chatter to each other while swooping across the neighbours’ gardens and rooftops.”

Ruth gained a BA in Fine Art, and an MA in Printmaking, and has had many group and solo exhibitions over the years.

Using a variety of traditional printing processes, which are often hand finished with watercolour or gouache, Ruth’s imagery has always drawn on her rural upbringing and her love of gardening and nature.

Her work is always popular and makes an ideal gift with a wide range of handmade original prints which will be available at prices to suit all pockets.
