Natural Threads - I'm excited to be one of three Wynd Gallery artists in this exhibition. Natural Threads features the work of Audrey Imber, Lucy Sugden and myself, showing work concerned with the natural form, shape and layers of the landscape and natural world. You'll be able to meet us, watch us work and Lucy is running a workshop during the week long exhibition.
I produce vibrant and diverse contemporary mixed media, painted textiles and textile art, full of colour and often containing a hint of fantasy.
In my work I employ an extensive range of skills including hand and machine embroidery, needle felting, batik and beading. I also make books using both textiles and paper.
I enjoy experimenting in my studio in Watford, combining textiles with many different mixed media techniques, as well as using my soldering iron and heat gun to distress and manipulate my pieces.
My inspiration comes from everything around me but I have a particular love of fantasy - ranging from old fairy tales, dragons, castles and other magical realms, to science fiction influences and alien worlds - and I try to incorporate an element of this in my pieces.
There is often a story in my head relating to the pieces I make and I hope to convey this by using colour and the textures of different media.
