Wat Art? A new Pop Up Gallery celebrates local artistic talent

National art organisation East Street Arts is working with Herts Visual Arts and intu Watford to celebrate artistic talent in Watford by transforming a vacant shop in Charter Place shopping centre into a Pop Up Art Gallery.  The Gallery will be open until May 2014 and this will be the last use of the shop prior to its planned demolition to enable redevelopment of the area.

The first exhibition, opening on 22 February, will display traditional and contemporary art and craft including silk batiks, ceramics and encaustic wax.  There will also be a programme of engaging talks, workshops and demonstrations throughout. Reuse, reinvention and remembering traditional skills will be a constant theme - the limited time will make it unmissable for local art enthusiasts.

“As a member of the HVA I feel it is a great opportunity for local artists to be invited by East Street Arts and intu to exhibit our work in a pop up gallery in Watford.  It will showcase the amount of varied artistic talent in the area.” Jan Langton – Watford Area Co-ordinator for Open Studios, HVA.

The Pop Up Gallery will be open in 39 Charter Place, intu Watford, WD17 2UB (opposite New Look).

The first exhibition runs from 22 February - 14 March.

Open from 11am – 5pm Wednesday – Saturday,
with demos, workshops & talks on Thursdays 6 – 8:30pm, Saturdays 11am – 5pm and Sunday, 2 – 4pm. See in store or check our facebook page for workshop programme: Facebook/EastStArtsSouth.
