Envious of the buzz at the jewellery stalls at craft fairs whilst I & my knitted scarves enjoyed a gentler hum of potential customer activity, I decided to follow the maxim “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”. But I’m a knitter, right? Not a jeweller! So what did I do? I scratched my head, did a few experiments (disasters), hurt my hands, tried thinking out of the box (horrid expression, but it’s kind of what I did), & learned to use knitting techniques in a different way. I extended my range of materials to include beads, wire, clasps & other jewellery paraphernalia … and went over to the dark side. I began knitting necklaces incorporating Pandora style charm & other beads; bracelets knitted with wire strung with beads, semi-precious stones, tiny buttons — indeed anything with a hole in that I can thread onto the wire; and, most recently, adjustable cuffs/wristlets, again knitted & incorporating beads & wired to hold their shape. Commissions for bespoke bracelets considered - just ask.
