I am a contemporary acrylic and mixed media artist. My creative techniques have evolved over many years. With both of my parents having an artistic flair, I was heavily influenced by their enjoyment of the subject and soon inherited their passion.
I began attending art classes when I was young and have continued to study art throughout my life.
Portraiture has always been my first love, with semi-abstract works another favourite. Over the years I have experimented with various media, but currently, I find that acrylic paint and mixed media suit my way of working.
I draw inspiration from textured materials / structures that have stood the test of time, such as historic, weathered buildings and rusty metal work. Other influences are the intricacies of nature: woodgrain, autumn leaves and seedpods, plants, and water.
Over recent years my style has become much more experimental and free. I love to manipulate space by overlaying shapes, switching around foreground and background, and creating depth using pattern and design.
Colour is a vital element of my work. Generally, I find using a palette of blues/greens and oranges/reds side by side very satisfying to the eye and these combinations feature heavily in my paintings.
