I make thrown and hand-built decorated earthenware, inspired by plants, animals, gardens, and landscapes. I pour white slip over the red clay. When the piece is leather-hard I draw freely through the white layer to reveal the red clay underneath. I then paint the unfired leather-hard piece with underglaze colours, and fire to 1080 degrees in an electric kiln. My workshop is a converted garage at my home in Bishop’s Stortford.
