Alison has a background in Children’s Book Illustration with an MA from Cambridge School of Art. Her first BA degree was in Three Dimensional Design, specialising in Jewellery and some of her artwork is reminiscent of wearable, sculptural art.
Her 2D and 3D Artwork have an illustrative quality; nature, botanical studies and animals feature with a bias towards imaginative work. Colour, tone and detail play an important role in expressing the emotion in the image. Alison uses various traditional media, with acrylic, gouache and coloured pencils, being used the most. Original artworks, prints, greeting cards, illustrated boxes and children’s books are all available to buy. This is the first year Alison has taken part in the Herts Open Studios and she is very excited to be a part of this event.

Kim works with print and paint, her paintings are a physical expression of the moment in time, while her prints examine the past and future as they illustrate remembered and imagined places. Her use of materials carries this intention; in printmaking as the lino is carved away, so we delve into our memories and imaginations; as layers of ink are applied, so our ideas and recollections are changed and expanded. Her paintings are made from observation; intuitive expressions of the present: the weather, colours and emotions are made visible in paint.
Kim established her studio gallery Make Space in spring 2024, teaching and facilitating workshops and hosting exhibitions for other artists; somewhere playful creativity is central to community, wellbeing and happiness. She will be running workshops there throughout Open Studios.
Kim has an MA in Illustration and Book Arts from Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University, and was shortlisted for the Sustainability Art Prize.
I am still a relatively new artist with a passion for popular music from the 60’s 70’s 80’s and 90’s, my art is a tribute to the musicians I love, creating cool and colourful pieces that stand out. During open studios I will be exhibiting my original pieces along with prints. These can also be viewed and purchased on my website www.lisabentleyartworks.com When I’m not creating art related to my favourite music I also like to experiment with various other subjects, mainly flowers, again using bright and bold to create stand out pieces.
