Emotionally I am drawn to wild, raw and atmospheric landscapes offering the duality of drama and vulnerability. I usually work on several artworks at a time, this allows me to see what is working, so that I can expand and develop my intentions and ideas. The advantage of this is that I can expand and develop my ideas eventually forming a visual dialogue. I work intuitively to begin with and also enjoy the aspect allowing the interaction of spontaneity and control to add energy to the painting. I generally rely on memory and emotional responses drawn from what I am referencing. As the painting develops I take a more critical approach refining and resolving, whilst striving to keep the energy of the marks. I would like to think that my work evokes a human experience of the land rather than its physical presence, which is my offering to the viewer.
